Carrier Aggregation in LTE-Advanced

For carrier aggregation in LTE there is a concept of Inter-band and intra-band Carrier Aggregation, with contagious and non-contagious bands.

we consider a aggregation of band it happens at RLC and PDCP layer in LTE stack.

For which each e-nodeB aggregated carrier known as Component carrier will make a aggregation of maximum 5 carrier.The component carrier can have a bandwidth of 1.4, 3, 5, 10, 15 or 20 MHz and a maximum of five component carriers can be aggregated.

Here While we use contentious frequency then aggregation is known as intra-band contegious,however in case of there is a gap in band with same carrier then its known as intra-band,non contegious CA.

for a different band CC aggregation it will be considered as inter-band non-contegious CA.

CA Bandwidth class is classified in three different classes,

Class A: ATBC ≤ 100, maximum number of CC = 1

Class B: ATBC ≤ 100, maximum number of CC = 2

Class C: 100 < ATBC ≤ 200, maximum number of CC = 2

Here

ATBC : Aggregated Transmission Bandwidth Configuration (ATBC): total number of aggregated physical resource blocks (PRB)

CA bandwidth class: indicates a combination of maximum ATBC and maximum number of CCs
